I am cool like cheese whiz...

Afternoon Fun: part 2 - dogs

This is part 2 of our afternoon fun from this past Sunday in our backyard.  We have two black labs named Jake and Molly.  They were the target of my glasses of funk!

Afternoon Fun

Wisconsin has had some pretty humid weather for the last week or so.  So of course we had to get outdoors this Sunday when that humidity broke and we had almost perfect temperatures!  After much needed mowing of the yard, I hauled all of Aubrey's toys outside and followed her around with my camera.

Aubs trying to figure out what these funky glasses were all about.
I love this candid of Aubrey by one of our two black labs, this one is Jake.
Almost 15 months old and already running around with a camera!

I've been framed!  It was hard trying to figure out how to set up the frame and without it falling on her.

I have more shots from our afternoon in the backyard which I'll post sometime in the next day or so.  Mostly of our pups and the torment I put them through.  : )

Stephanie: Senior Session

Nicole and I had an awesome time photographing Stephanie's senior session a few weeks ago. Stephanie came up from Sun Prairie where she goes to high school and we took shots around our back yard of Prairie Du Sac as well as Devil's Lake. It was a blast!
Stephanie started out the session in her prom dress. One word can only describe it - Wow!

What does Post Processing mean?

'What exactly is Post Processing?' is one of the most popular questions we get. Every photo you receive from 5th Street Photography has some sort of Post Processing done to it. Post Processing essentially means we take an already fantastic phot and make it un-freakin-believable! This is done by removing any blemishes or obstructions, tossing in some black'n'white, and a touch of sepia or extra color boost where needed.

Example: Aubrey's trip to the zoo.
Here you see the original photo of Aubrey checking out a tiger at the zoo. This is the straight out of camera shot. Note the sharp contrast to the lighting between Aubrey who is in the shade and the tiger who is in direct sunlight.

After downloading the picture into the computer, I used a pen tablet, Lightroom and Photoshop to lighten up the shady parts and darken the sunlit areas. Then I used a curves layer and some contrasting to help boost the colors and make the photo pop. The end result is below.

I will occasionally add other examples of Post Processing in the future. If anyone has any questions, feel free to email us at Photography@5th-Street.net.

Mad-Zoo field trip

Nicole and I were constantly inspired by Bobby Earle, who is one of our favorite photographers. Recently he did a trip to Africa and shot some wildlife.  So we decided to go find our own wildlife at the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison.  Below you'll find a few shots I took.

Happy Feet

This tiger was pacing back and forth against the glass.  It was awe inspiring being that close!
We have two dogs and three cats at home, but nothing this big.  Aubrey shows no fear.

Bachelor Party extra's

Double blog post today! As I mentioned in the earlier post, I was going through and adding watermarks to photos from recent sessions and came across a few other Bachelor party favorites I wanted to share on the blog.

Group shot of the guys.

Sand thrown in the air = great action shots.

Freezing the motion of the mid-air collision.

Michael and Lynn: Wedding

I just wanted to post a few more of my favorite pics from Michael and Lynn's wedding we did in beautiful Caledonia, MN. I was scanning through them last night while adding our new watermark to the ones we were going to add to the site and thought 'Man I really gotta share these on the blog!'. The couple was fantastic, the weather was great, and the scenery of the town was gorgeous!

Here is a beautiful, old, white church that Michael & Lynn wanted some formals taken at.

A candid shot of the happy couple as we were leaving the spot.

Michael and his guys.

Candid shot of Lynn and a couple of the bridesmaids leaving the hotel for the church.

Michael requested a walking, action shot. Turned out very Resevoir Dog-ish, very cool!

Detail shots, the flowers and an awesome shot of the rings by Nicole.

Can you guess what dance they were doing here?

Happy couple outside their church.

Race for the Cure 2009

Last Saturday was the Susan G Komen: Race for the Cure run/walk to help raise awareness for breast cancer. The first year I met my wife Nicole was the last time we were able to participate in this event. So it felt really great being able to do it again this year and being able to bring our daughter who just started walking last month!

I also finally completed Michael and Lynn's wedding photos yesterday. Personally I think they are some of our best shots yet!

Next on my photography plate is a Stephanie's Senior photos we took this last weekend and also an awesome spur of the moment bachelor party I took shots of in Wisconsin Dells a week ago. These fellas had class all the way and had an awesome WWE theme for the party! Here is a small sneak peak:
